Head Mechanic

The Golf Course Head Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and management of all golf course maintenance equipment. Working closely with the Golf Course Superintendent, this position ensures equipment is safe, reliable, and operating at peak performance to support daily maintenance operations and long-term course conditioning goals. 

Employment Type: Full-Time, Year-Round Position 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on all turf equipment including: 
  1.      Mowers (greens, tees, fairways, rough) 
  2.      Utility vehicles 
  3.      Tractors and small engines (weed eaters, chainsaws, hedge trimmers)
  • Develop and maintain a preventative maintenance program for all equipment 
  • Maintain accurate service records and parts inventory 
  • Communicate equipment needs, safety concerns, and replacement recommendations to the Superintendent 
  • Schedule equipment maintenance to minimize downtime and disruption to course operations 
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance shop 
  • Assist maintenance staff with basic equipment operation and care training Qualifications 
  • 3+ years of experience as a golf course or turf equipment mechanic preferred 
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diagnostic skills 
  • Experience with reel grinding and bedknife setup preferred 
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks 
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety 
  • Valid driver’s license required 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in outdoor conditions as needed 
  • Team player mentality is a MUST 
  • Welding knowledge is a plus
