About this role
The United States Golf Association (USGA) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented, part-time Groundskeeper / Agronomist to assist in the maintenance and care of turfgrass areas on our campus. This part-time role is ideal for students, recent graduates, or individuals pursuing a career in turf management, agronomy, horticulture, or sports field management.
The Groundskeeper / Agronomist will support daily conditioning efforts, implementing best practices in turf maintenance, turf health, irrigation, and environmental stewardship for a high-end campus setting. Equipment and materials will be provided.
What you’ll do

| 40% | Routine Grounds Maintenance & Turf Management • Oversee and maintain two autonomous mowers, including performance monitoring, mow pattern management, and weekly blade replacement. • Maintain hardscape edging, pathways, landscape borders, and natural surface areas throughout campus. • Monitor turf conditions and identify stress, weeds, disease, and irrigation issues. • Perform weed control, hand weeding, seasonal cleanup, debris removal, and general grounds maintenance. • Remove leaves, pine straw, grass clippings, and other debris to maintain campus appearance. • Refresh sand in designated landscape areas as needed. • Perform weekly blowing and cleanup of grounds, walkways, and parking areas. • Safely operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment and tools. • Follow all safety standards and best environmental practices. • Support additional projects as assigned. |
| 40% | Irrigation System Maintenance • Manage irrigation controller programming, seasonal adjustments, daily system monitoring, and routine repairs. • Conduct wet checks twice weekly during the growing season. • Perform annual irrigation system startup and winterization. |
| 10% | Turf Chemical & Fertilization Program • Apply seasonal fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, and other turf treatments as needed. |
| 10% | Seasonal & Additional Services • Perform storm response and emergency irrigation or turf support services as needed. |
Where you’ll be
This role is based on-site in Pinehurst and offers a flexible part-time schedule of up to 20 hours per week.
What you bring
- Current enrollment in, or 2+ years of experience in, turfgrass management, horticulture, agriculture, agronomy, golf course operations, landscaping, or a related field preferred.
- Prior landscaping, groundskeeping, or golf course maintenance experience is a plus.
- Required North Carolina pesticide applicator license
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physical labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, attention to detail, and willingness to work early mornings required.
- Valid driver’s license
