About Us: Cherokee National Golf Club is a premier private course serving approximately 450 members and generating over $1M in annual revenue. We're seeking a Greens Superintendent who brings technical expertise and leadership to maintain and elevate the quality of our golf course.
Role Summary: The Greens Superintendent is responsible for all aspects of golf course and maintenance and turfgrass management. This position oversees a small team of grounds staff and ensures the course is playable, safe, and visually outstanding through all seasons. The Superintendent collaborates with club leadership to align turf management strategies with budget, sustainability goals, and member expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead day-to-day course maintenance, including mowing, irrigation, bunker care, and chemical applications
- Monitor and respond to agronomic conditions, turf health, pest pressures, and weather impacts
- Manage budget for grounds operations, including equipment, fertilizers, and staffing
- Supervise and train crew members in safety, best practices, and seasonal protocols
- Oversee equipment maintenance schedules and capital planning
- Maintain detailed records of applications, irrigation, and turf treatments
- Serve as point of contact for member feedback related to course conditions
Qualifications:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Science, Agronomy, or related field preferred
- 3+ years of experience as Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent at a private or public course
- Knowledge of warm-season turf management practices (Bermuda grass experience preferred)
- Pesticide Applicator License or ability to obtain within 90 days
- Strong team leadership and communication skills
- Familiarity with irrigation systems, Toro/Rain Bird experience a plus
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and member-focused mindset
