Hillandale Golf Course is seeking a qualified and motivated Golf Course Superintendent to oversee the daily maintenance and operations of a busy public golf facility. This position plays a key leadership role in ensuring the course delivers a high-quality, accessible, and enjoyable experience for the local community.


Position Overview

The Golf Course Superintendent will manage all aspects of course maintenance with a strong focus on turf quality, fiscal responsibility, safety, and environmental stewardship in alignment with municipal and company standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Public Course Maintenance: Maintain greens, fairways, tees, and roughs to perform under high traffic and daily play conditions.
  • Irrigation & Water Management: Operate and maintain irrigation systems with an emphasis on water conservation and compliance.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise, schedule, and train maintenance staff, including seasonal employees; enforce safety protocols and OSHA compliance.
  • Budget & Operations: Assist with annual budgeting, manage expenses, track inventory, and coordinate equipment purchasing.
  • Community Engagement: Work closely with the Director of Golf Operations and golf staff to support tournaments, leagues, and community events; respond to public inquiries professionally.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field.
  • Experience: 3–5 years of turf management experience, with supervisory or assistant superintendent experience preferred. Municipal or public facility experience is a plus.
  • Turf Conditions: Champion Bermuda greens, TifTuf driving range, and common Bermuda throughout the course.
  • Licenses:
    • Must obtain or hold all required North Carolina pesticide/fertilization application licenses
    • Valid driver’s license
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of turfgrass management, irrigation systems, equipment operation, and budget tracking.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as needed; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Compensation

  • Starting Salary: $70,000+ (commensurate with experience)
