Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated Golf Course Superintendent to lead all aspects of agronomic management for our private, Dye-designed golf course in the scenic Upstate region of South Carolina. The Superintendent will be responsible for maintaining exceptional playing conditions, managing grounds and facilities, and leading a year-round team of turf professionals. This individual will report directly to the General Manager and work closely with the Green Committee to achieve strategic and operational goals that include a green renovation scheduled for this summer.


Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the daily maintenance of the golf course, practice facilities, clubhouse grounds, and all related landscaped areas.

• Supervise and train a staff of full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees, promoting a culture of professionalism and accountability.

• Develop and manage the agronomy department’s annual budget, including forecasting, labor management, purchasing, and capital planning.

• Schedule and implement agronomic programs including fertilization, irrigation, mowing, pest control, and cultural practices to optimize turf health and playing conditions.

• Maintain a strong preventative maintenance program for equipment in collaboration with the Equipment Manager.

• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws pertaining to chemical applications, water usage, and environmental stewardship.

• Prepare and present reports to ownership and/or club committees as needed, including budget updates, course conditions, and long-term planning.

• Play a leadership role in future capital improvements, including renovation or restoration projects aligned with the Dye design philosophy.

• Maintain positive relationships with club members, guests, vendors, and other departments.


Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field.

• A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in golf course maintenance, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or superintendent role (private club experience preferred).

• Strong knowledge of warm-season turfgrass management, particularly Bermuda or Zoysia grass, and familiarity with cool-season overseeding practices if applicable.

• Proven experience managing G12 or hybrid greens in the Southeast preferred.

• Solid understanding of irrigation systems (Toro or Rain Bird preferred) and troubleshooting techniques.

• Proficient in managing agronomy software, budgeting tools, and basic MS Office applications.

• Current South Carolina Pesticide Applicator’s License or ability to obtain within 90 days.

• Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays as needed.

• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
