Smithfields Country Club, a premier private 18-hole golf facility located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, is seeking a motivated Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. The course features Bermuda fairways and TifEagle ultradwarf Bermuda greens and is known for maintaining exceptional playing conditions year-round. 

Position Summary

The Assistant Superintendent will support the Golf Course Superintendent in all aspects of golf course maintenance and operations, helping to uphold high standards of conditioning and playability.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in daily golf course maintenance operations in order to maintain high-quality playing conditions
• Monitor turf health and implement agronomic practices (mowing, fertility programs, aerification, topdressing, moisture management)
• Assist with irrigation scheduling, troubleshooting, and repairs
• Supervise, train, and motivate maintenance staff
• Assist with pesticide and fertilizer applications in accordance with state regulations and best management practices
• Ensure daily course setup meets the club's standards for playability, consistency, and presentation 
• Operate and maintain turf equipment as needed
• Assist with planning and execution of course improvement projects 

Qualifications

• 2–4 year degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field required
• Previous golf course maintenance experience required
• Knowledge of irrigation systems, turf management, pesticide/fertilizer applications and equipment operations
• Experience with warm-season turf, including ultradwarf Bermuda greens
• Strong work ethic, leadership skills, and attention to detail
• Ability to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and in varying weather conditions 

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: $40,000–$45,000 annually (based on experience)
