Headwaters Golf Club is a private club nestled in the mountains of Cashiers, North Carolina. Designed by world-renowned architect Tom Fazio, our 9-hole par 3 course is consistently recognized as one of the premier short courses in the nation.

Position Overview

The Assistant Superintendent will work directly with the Golf Course Superintendent in all aspects of daily golf course maintenance, agronomic planning, and overall property presentation. This is a year-round, full-time position offering hands-on involvement in every facet of the operation.

Responsibilities include managing cool-season putting surfaces, fertilizer and pesticide applications, maintaining ornamental gardens and landscape areas, and assisting with infrastructure and capital improvement projects.

The club operates on a six-month playing season, with the off-season focused on planning, in-house projects, equipment maintenance, and professional development.

Required Qualifications

• Degree in Turfgrass Science, Plant Science, Horticulture, or a closely related field
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including lifting, bending, extended walking or standing, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to obtain a North Carolina pesticide applicator’s license

Preferred Qualifications

• Two or more years of experience in golf course maintenance, preferably at a private or high-end facility
• Experience managing cool-season turfgrass, particularly bentgrass putting surfaces
• Familiarity with moisture management practices
• Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and pride in maintaining exceptional standards
