Position Overview
Olde Eight is seeking a motivated and skilled Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our growing grounds management team. This position reports directly to the Superintendent and Director of Golf Course & Grounds and plays a critical role in the daily maintenance, renovation, and long-term success of the golf course and surrounding grounds.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical knowledge who thrives in a team-focused environment and is eager to grow professionally toward a future Superintendent role.
Key Responsibilities
Course & Grounds Operations
- Assist in managing daily maintenance and renovation of the golf course and surrounding grounds.
- Oversee pesticide application, irrigation systems, and turf maintenance to ensure alignment with Olde Eight’s high standards.
- Assist with equipment maintenance, inventory, and budget management.
- Coordinate with contractors, architects, and internal teams to support course improvement projects.
- Support golf-related events by overseeing and managing dedicated support teams.
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Help lead, train, and mentor a grounds crew of 20+ team members.
- Schedule and oversee daily work assignments for groundskeepers and equipment operators.
- Conduct regular safety training and ensure adherence to best practices in equipment operation and course maintenance.
- Assist with performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and leadership development.
- Take ownership of work product and mentor less experienced staff, interns, or volunteers to maximize team performance.
Professional Development
- Actively contribute to training and professional growth within the grounds team.
- Demonstrate leadership with the goal of advancing to a Superintendent position at Olde Eight or elsewhere.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- Experience in golf course maintenance or turfgrass management.
- Knowledge of pesticide application, irrigation systems, and turf maintenance practices.
- Proven leadership or supervisory experience in a team environment.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
