Job Overview
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent assists the Superintendent in the daily operations of the golf course, ensuring that all areas, including turf, landscaping, irrigation, and equipment, are maintained to the highest standards. This position requires technical knowledge of turfgrass management, along with leadership skills to supervise and direct the maintenance crew.
Key Responsibilities
Course Maintenance & Operations:
- Knowledge of working with bentgrass greens
- Assist in overseeing the care and maintenance of the golf course, including greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, and roughs.
- Coordinate and supervise mowing, fertilization, aerification, and pest control programs under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent.
- Ensure course conditions are suitable for play, adjusting care techniques as needed.
Team Supervision:
- Supervise maintenance staff, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and according to established schedules and quality standards.
- Provide on-the-job training and development for staff, ensuring proper safety practices are followed.
- Fill in for the Superintendent during their absence, handling daily operations and staff assignments.
Irrigation & Water Management:
- Assist in monitoring and adjusting irrigation systems, ensuring adequate coverage and water conservation.
- Conduct checks of the irrigation system and address any issues or repairs in collaboration with the Superintendent.
Pest, Disease, and Fertilization Management:
- Assist with the application of fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides to maintain turf health and control pests and diseases.
- Help monitor turf conditions to detect early signs of pests, disease, or stress, reporting to the Superintendent for appropriate action.
Equipment Maintenance:
- Help maintain and repair golf course equipment, including mowers, aerators, and irrigation systems.
- Ensure equipment is stored properly and all necessary tools and supplies are available for maintenance tasks.
