Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
Raintree Country Club is seeking an Assistant Superintendent to join our team. Raintree is a private 36-hole facility located in South Charlotte, NC. Under the superintendent’s supervision, the assistant directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and the repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment and does related work as required. The assistant superintendent may serve in the superintendent’s capacity during his/her absence.
Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate will take initiative, be meticulous, and have a strong knowledge of golf course turf management. Bachelor’s degree or certificate in Turf Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field required.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent in golf course maintenance.
- Strong management skills and knowledge of maintenance operations.
- Strong knowledge of turf grass species, (Bentgrass preferred) agronomic practices, and irrigation systems.
- Ability to operate and maintain a variety of turf management equipment.
- Excellent communication, organizational and critical thinking skills.
- A strong work ethic.
Position Overview:
The Assistant Superintendent will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent to oversee daily maintenance operations of the course, ensuring exceptional playing conditions and the overall upkeep of the facility.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and train staff in daily tasks to ensure exacting standards of quality and efficiency.
- Monitor turf health, diagnose issues, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Participate in budgeting, planning, and inventory management.
- Assist in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety and personnel discipline.
- Supervise pesticide applications and/or operate and calibrate pesticide application equipment.
- Supervise and participate in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
- Collaborate with the Superintendent to establish and maintain maintenance schedules.
- Collaborate with the Superintendent to implement long-term agronomic strategies to improve course conditions. Assist with planning and overseeing seasonal projects such as aerification and agronomic calendars.
