Job Description:
The Assistant Superintendent will support all aspects of golf course maintenance under the guidance of the Golf Course Superintendent. This role encompasses a range of responsibilities including renovation projects, landscaping, crew supervision and training, irrigation maintenance, and pesticide/fertilizer application.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate daily scheduling of crew duties.
- Perform supervisory duties to support the golf maintenance team.
- Supervise and assist in pesticide and fertilizer applications.
- Operate all equipment associated with golf maintenance.
- Identify problems and recommend solutions to the Superintendent.
- Maintain and inspect golf course grounds, clubhouse grounds, landscaping, and maintenance equipment as assigned.
- Conduct and maintain inventory control practices.
- Assist in hiring golf and landscape personnel.
- Train employees in all aspects of golf course operations.
- Attend approved conferences, workshops, and meetings to stay current with industry developments.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by management.
- Qualifications:
- 2- or 4-year degree in Turf Management or Agronomy.
- 1-2 years of experience or 2 internships in Golf Maintenance.
- Experience in managing cool season turf in the transition zone is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to supervise and train employees.
- Sound water management skills/knowledge.
- Ability to identify pest threats on the golf course.
- Good organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Knowledge of the game of golf and its rules.
- Ability to manage the facility in the Superintendent's absence.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to excellence.
- Ability to work weekends and holidays with little or no notice.
- Pesticide License preferred.
