Hampton Hall Club is accepting applications for the position of First Assistant Superintendent. The course is located in a 1,100-acre private residential community ideally located between Hilton Head Island, SC and Savannah, GA. The Pete Dye signature golf course was built in 2003. The community has received the Best of Bluffton award the last 10 years. A significant restoration project was completed in 2023. During the restoration, greens were cored out 4” and replanted with TifEagle Bermudagrass. Bunkers were reconfigured to the original Pete Dye design. Multiple tees were added to accommodate the entire membership. New target greens were added to enhance the driving range. Forty-One miles of subsurface drainage system was installed under fairways and approaches. Replacement of all sprinkler heads on the golf course will take place in the winter of 2024. Hampton Hall Club has a robust, congenial and supportive membership.

First Assistant will be involved in all aspects of golf course maintenance. This position is ideal for someone who is willing to work hard and is looking for the opportunity to gain experience and move their career towards becoming a Golf Course Superintendent. The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will assist the Golf Course Superintendent in managing the daily operations of the golf course. This role is critical to maintaining the course’s high standards and ensuring it meets the expectations of our members and guests. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in golf course management, a keen eye for detail, highly motivated, and excellent leadership skills.

         Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning and execution of agronomic programs to maintain high-quality turf conditions including spraying, as needed.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of the turf management team.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the golf course and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Manage the irrigation system, including scheduling repairs and adjustments.
  • Assist in budgeting and record-keeping related to course maintenance.
  • Develop and implement staff training programs to enhance team skills and performance.
  • Collaborate with the Golf Course Superintendent to plan and execute seasonal maintenance and renovation projects.
  • Address and resolve any issues related to course conditions, equipment, or staffing.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in golf course maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of agronomy, turf management practices, and irrigation systems.
  • Proficiency in the use and maintenance of golf course equipment.
  • Excellent leadership, training, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends and holidays, as needed.
  • Make application of pesticides and fertilizers, including documentation of all applications made to golf course.
  • Assist Mechanic if needed and learn basic cutting unit adjustments.


Educational and special Requirements:

  • 2-year degree or certificate in Turf Management or Agronomy is required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must have a positive attitude, a passion for golf and the turf industry.
  • Must be able to move or pick up heavy objects.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and interact with others in a team environment.
