About Us: Olde Eight is a premier golf experience with exclusive amenities, recreational opportunities, and nature all on beautiful Lake Greenwood in South Carolina. We have purchased what was known as The Links at Stoney Point and are redeveloping the golf course and many other aspects of the club to become Olde Eight, and we are looking for an experienced Assistant Equipment Manager to help us bring our vision for golf greatness to life.

We have adopted the bones of an existing golf course that is primed to become a new championship-level golf course and par 3 course designed by award-winning architect Drew Rogers. To achieve our vision of greatness, we are making numerous significant enhancements for the Olde Eight Grounds Team to be successful which will include:

  • Expansion and renovation of the mechanics shop with new grinders and golf lifts
  • New fleet of John Deere equipment (4-year lease)
  • New Rainbird irrigation system with the latest equipment and technologies
  • New Watertionics pumpstation
  • Tifeagle greens and Tahoma 31 on tees, fairways, and rough

Salary Range: $45,000-$55,000 depending on experience.

Position Overview

The Assistant Equipment Manager will report to the Equipment Manager, Superintendent, and Director of Golf & Grounds. The Assistant Equipment Manager will work with this team to support the maintenance, repair, and operation of the golf course’s existing and expanding equipment fleet at Olde Eight. With the Olde Eight undergoing a significant redesign and the fleet set to grow with new John Deere equipment, this role will play a crucial part in ensuring all maintenance equipment is kept in optimal working condition. The Assistant Equipment Manager will be responsible for preventive maintenance, repairs, and ensuring equipment is set up to deliver the highest quality of cut. This position will be primarily based in the maintenance shop, with responsibilities extending to on-course quality control and urgent equipment repairs.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Preventive Maintenance and Repairs:
    • Perform regular preventive maintenance on all golf course maintenance equipment, including mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, and other specialized machinery.
    • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on equipment.
    • Maintain detailed records of all maintenance work, repairs, and parts inventory.


  • Equipment Setup and Reel/Bedknife Grinding:
    • Set up equipment to ensure the highest quality of cut, focusing on precision adjustments of reel and rotary mowers.
    • Perform reel and bedknife grinding to maintain optimal cutting conditions and prolong equipment life.


  • On-Course Quality Control:
    • Conduct periodic inspections on-course to ensure that equipment is performing to the highest standards and delivering the desired playing conditions.
    • Communicate with the Equipment Manager, Superintendent and Director of Golf & Grounds, as well as grounds staff to ensure equipment is functioning efficiently during course operations.


  • Urgent Equipment Repairs:
    • Respond quickly to breakdowns or mechanical issues on the course to minimize downtime and disruption to golf course maintenance operations.
    • Troubleshoot equipment problems and perform repairs in the field when necessary.


  • Shop Expansion and Fleet Management:
    • Assist in the transition of the shop’s expansion to accommodate the growing equipment fleet.
    • Support the Equipment Manager in the management of new equipment inventory, ensuring the organization and availability of tools and parts.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in small engine repair, diesel mechanics, or related field preferred.
  • Preferably 2-3 years of experience working with golf course maintenance equipment, turf maintenance equipment, or similar machinery.
  • Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance, mechanical repair, and small engine diagnostics.
  • Experience with reel and bedknife grinding preferred.
  • Familiarity with John Deere equipment is highly desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to make quick, effective decisions in urgent situations.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs. and work in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work both indoors in the maintenance shop and outdoors on the course, sometimes in inclement weather.
  • Ability to stand, bend, and lift for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks.


Work Environment:

  • Occasionally handles emergency or crisis situations.
  • May frequently be subject to interruptions, multiple tasks and inquiries.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to noisy.
  • Work will be primarily indoors with some outdoor work.
  • May have to work observed holidays, such as Memorial Day, Independence Day, etc.
